Ailmentum is usually prescribed by a doctor, your baby probably was put on that because he or she was having problems on the similac which is milk based. My 3 yr was on alimentum till he was a year old then we switched to milk and he did fine. He had to be on that because he was having real hard time with his bowel movements. It is prob. best that your baby stay on the alimentum but if you have the ok from the doc to change you just slowly and a lil similac to the alimentum until they are just on the similac

Alimentum means that your baby is allergic to the protein that cows have. Don't switch the baby until your clear it with the pediatrician. My 3rd son was on it and he still can't drink whole milk at 3.

It's not bad, just ridiculous. She might want to know that formula has MANY more calories than a lot of other drinks - I believe the average is about 20 calories per ounce. Tell her not to develop a taste for the stuff. Babies need those calories - grown-ups do not. It's better than your daughter being dared to drink 4 oz of hard liquor, but perhaps it would be good to have a talk about why you don't always need to accept a dare when someone offers it.

As long as your doctor agrees with you moving on. It also depends on your babies sensitivity. When you do, say give 4 ounces....put in 1 ounce regular and 3 alimentum.
-Do that the first day. In only one bottle for the day.
-the next day 2 ounces
-next day 3 ounces
-next day 4 ounces
-next day do two bottles with regular
-next day do three bottles
and so on.
Be sure to stop if your baby becomes irritable, vommits, runny poop or constipated. You don't have to totally stop just extend the last step a couple days. You may need to move slower.
I have to only use liquid. I gave my daughter powder and she puked like the exorcist in less than a minute.
Good luck. It is soooooo expensive. Wish you luck

Was there a reason that he was put on alimentum in the first place (due to allergy or something)? If so, DO NOT switch without your baby's pediatrician's conscent! It could cause him harm.

If you have not asked yet, ask your doctor first, then if she says you can, she will tell you to phase out the current formula by adding 2 scoops of the current to 2 scoops of the new. That way your baby will not really know the difference.

I say 2 scoops to 2 scoops if you are feeding at 4oz of milk. You know, 2 scoops to a 2oz bottle, 4 scoops to a 4oz bottle, etc.

Hope this helps you.. :-)

Definately consult the pediatician first. If they give you the okay then switch. I will warn you though that your baby will probably have a stomachache for a couple of days after that. He/She has to get used to the switch, but he/she will be okay :)
