I've used papertowels in a pinch. they are two layered so be sure to seaparate them and cut in a circle as big a a reg filter...worked for me because I was NOT about to go without my coffee!!!! (notice my name?) Haaaaa

I pour my brewed tea through them when making iced tea. The round ones are good to put between china plates to keep them from scratching. Strain the oil from a deep fryer so that it can be used again.

I use them for sharing popcorn or chips to keep everybody's mitts out of the same bowl / bag. They work great for filtering anything - oils, teas, mulling spices for cider, etc.

Put them in the bottom of a flower pot (instead of stones) when potting new plants. They help the plant retain water but also let it drain slowly and also keep harmful bugs from entering the bottom of the pot on outdoor potted plants.
