He famously had one when he won his gold medal at the Montreal Olympics in 1976. I'd like to know if still has it and even more specifically, did he still have it in May 1989? This is research for a novel I'm writing.

when i was about eight i had my photo taken with David Wilkie at the Dolan Baths, East Kilbride. We all had to swim a length or a breadth or something and he'd pose with us, tache and all.
Dozens of near-naked young boys, a camera, and that moustache.
Those were the days, eh?
