Most governments use fear and a false or over- hyped enemy. It's Machiavelli's greatest rule of political philosophy. Have an enemy, and if you don't have an enemy, create one.

People can't think straight when they're in fear and confused by constant threats. By nature, people just want to live in a safe comfort zone. Governments can abuse this fear and push through changes that the public would usually reject. In the 'Politics of Fear', bad Government law is happily accepted if the only alternative is danger from invisible evil-doers.

It's like a Mafia protection racket or the Krays protection system in 1960's London. If you owned a shop / bar / nightclub, one of the Kray firm would offer you protection from all criminal elements at a price. If you refused to pay, your business would be a target (most likely by a gang member of the Kray firm.) When you paid, nothing ever went wrong again.

You didn't want to pay 50% of your profit to mobsters, but the alternative was much worse.

That's how "The Politics of Fear" works. In fact that's how democracy works. You have two choices, one is bad and the other is really, really bad.

Pearl Harbour was used to get the USA into WW2. The fake WMD intelligence and Yellow Cake forgeries were for Iraq. Some say 7/7 was used to push ID cards & other freedom removing changes. Whether 7/7 was an inside job or not, it has been a tool to advance "The Politics of Fear" and remove further civilian power to benefit the few rulers.

Governments that say "the first liberty is the liberty of life" actually mean "hand us the power and live by our oppressive rule book, and you'll be safe." You'll also be miserable, intellectually suffocated, gagged by political correctness and watched over by Big Brother. An ID card is an asset tag, or barcode for the Governments brain-dead (but conforming) Human population.

Don't buy into the daily threats. They need to issue daily alerts to create a cognitive dissonance, or total confusion in the mind from information overload & contradictions. People adjust to new situations and solve problems so well, there has to be daily government fear tactics to make the threat so fluid and rapidly changing. Otherwise we'd analyse the facts and either mentally adjust or work out it's all a political scam.

NO I AM NOT AFRAID!!!

Firstly, The 7/7 attacks were MI5 or MI6. The asians were patsies.

I am NOT afraid, because I know the terrorist threat is total BS. the VAST majority of those detained have been released without charge, of the minority of those charged, the vast majority have been charged with non-terrorist related minor crimes like visa violations. No matter how hard the authorities look for the terrorists, they cannot find them. because they don't exist.

Those detained in the ALEDGED air liner plot this August? None had bought airline tickets, most didn't have passports, the alledged suicide wills? I have it on authority that these are the wills of uncles of one of the detained. Uncles who wrote the wills in advance of going to Kosovo to fight on OUR SIDE in defence of the Kosovo muslims. AL queda and the Para's and the SAS where working together in 1999 to train Kosovo 'freedom fighters'

The alledged explosives they were alledgedly trying to concoct could not be constructed on a plane. the whole plot was a load of bollocks concocted by the security services as a false flag operation to 'flush out' the real terrorists. the problem is, 'our (MI5) terrorists, and their (CIA) terrorists did not fully know who each other were and mistook each other for the real thing, then panicked and blew the whistle, the unfortunate niaeve patsies (bait) were detained, charged in such a way as to keep them out of the way for a long time, meanwhile much fearmongering publicity was to be had.

It was all B.S.

You are far more likely to be killed by killer bees, or a MI5 sting gone wrong, than by Al Queda terrorists. That said, wecould still face massive terrorist outrages, but only when OUR Secret Government removes some security and allows one to happen for their political and financial gain.

Yes you should read George Orwell's 1984. It should have been 2006 but whats a few years between friends. That says it all. The Propaganda of fear and the unseen perpetual war. This is because politicians want full control over peoples lives that's why they go into politics. They create the atmosphere of fear so they can bring in their Stalinist control orders and people will actually thank them for it. It is crazy. The only thing we can do is to lobby for a fixed term for all politicians so they have to go at the end of it. Maybe that way they wont get overzealous.

I hope from my heart the UK remains safe place. I do not trust the current government, the attitude they took is similar to the USA after 9/11 which is to scare people all the times to cover other co*k ups by raising the alert level from orange to red ...The majority of the alarms were false alarms and only created tension and hate. We look forward for a new leader to really think of the future of this country, control passive immigration, get different groups in this country close to each other instead of creating hate and tension. Blair has always worked for the benefit of the USA as well as his own interest.. he has to go!

It worries me how some people think. How that one guy can say that the government were responsible for 7/7. The security forces have done a lot and stopped many attempts to hurt the people of this country. What p***es me off is that the guys who commited the 7/7 attacks were supposedly british, but that is open to debate. Im sure a lot of these do gooders may change their tune when their in the middle of another incident.

He ended torture, prevented a complete economic collapse, restored the US position in the eyes of the rest of the world and he's trying to get us closer to a health care access level enjoyed by every other country in the industrial world. There are new banking laws, restraint on mortgage lending and other regulations blocking the unrestrained greed that grew over the last eight years. He's not perfect but, all things considered, not bad at all.

Well they saw how manipulative this way is for the people in America so they liked the idea! The more scared you feel, the more insecure you feel the easier you can say yes to whatever they create to 'protect you'. How come these news were reported yesterday, after the comment of the army general about bringing back home the British troops in Iraq and the whole 'veil' debate. It seems to me that they are trying to create fear to the public so noone will judge the goverments decisions because they see that more people everyday aren't happy about their tactics.

I sure Hope not, Blair is using it as an excuse to make GB a Police State, I.D cards and so on. I think you stick 2 fingers up to the Terrorists and say " Bring it on". Look at 9/11 and 7/7. 9/11 first, yes it was very, very sad that 3000+ innocent people lost their lifes, 7/7 53 people died, once again it's very sad and my heart goes out to the familes who lost loved ones. But put it into context America lost 3000 souls in 9/11 they have a population of 300,000,000 so the odds of an American dying at the hands of Terrorists are 10,000,000 to 1 against!, same with 7/7 53 died from a population of 60,000,000 once again the chance of being killed by terrorists are millions to one against. To put it in context you are more likely to be struck by Lighting 12,000 times than be killed by Terrorists. ( The Odds of being struck by Lighting is 25,000 to 1 against)

GB clearly has signed up.

It is not something unique to the current government... the Torys would be no different! The main problem is that governments (particularly - but not exclusively - those of Tony Bush & George Blair) have fed their crap to the people and the people wanted to believe it - and have drank it all in gleefully.

It is so much easier to have enemies then to try and live with integrity for all... then you can 'justify' being "right"!!

it worrys me that they let the last attack happen, i mean they had the security group out there at the same time on the same day around the same place that was doing drills for exactly what happened they went from a drill to the real thing the same thing happened at most of the terrorist attacks in the US i feel they let it happen because it gave support to blair from us the british people,i may be wrong hope i am but it just does not add up there are questions that need to be answered.
