I live just outside of Cincinnati Ohio, and the siren near me keeps going on and off, and making a weird techno beep sound, I think it's a federal thunderbolt siren. They usually only test on Wednesday at noon so I dunno why it's on now, because there can't be a tornado as it's not even raining or dark clouds outside.
Maybe someone has messed with it, or a glitch???

Just to confirm, there is no tornado. It's been too cold for one, and it would be on the local news.

They are testing the warning system out. Here in Phoenix during the whole cold war era you could hear the siren go off downtown at noon everyday. It was just a test to make sure everything is working. Its the same thing as what they do on television of the emergency broadcast system, it is only a test.

Oh, the train sound doesn't work when its pouring like crazy out, and lightning and hail abound. By the way, the areas was under a watch, then as soon as the storms left Ohio, they weakened, like they always seem to do, and the watch was cancelled. There were NO warnings anywhere near you ---- a warning is much more dangerous than just a watch. Anyway, you dodged a bullett, yet again in western p.a. You people do not have many tornadoes, which is why your town does not have one. I have been to your area in the summer, and the storms are sooo small!

Tornadoes can be miles across, multi-centered, and can move quickly. Therefore, if there was a big tornado upwind of your town, the many folks there would need a bit of time to get to shelter, etc. Also, there are people who just don't register that the siren means take cover, so you have to allow them a few minutes extra siren sound to take the threat on board.
Tornadoes are also notorious for dissipating quickly, so it may be that there actually was one en route, but (luckily) it ran out of steam before reaching your neighborhood?
If in doubt, check your local weather provider, or turn on the local radio. Better to check and be reassured that all is OK, than ignore a warning that (potentially) might save your life.

Possibly. Or they may have a state inspection where they have to test it on 'unscheduled' days to prove it's working. If there is no bad weather, don't worry. If you REALLY want to know, call the local police departments non emergency phone line and ask them. I think they are required to know if they are testing so if people call about the sound the police can tell them, 'oh their just testing.' One time, I called the police about what sounded like multiple gun shots, and they asked where I lived. When I told them, she said, ' oh, that's just the fireworks going off at the High school football game a few blocks from you.' So they may be able to tell you something.

Yes, it will happen from time to time that it is a glitch.......When things are elcetronic something can trip them to go off,,,You may want to call the fire department. or police...They can tell you.........Keep in mind that it doesn't have to be raining right over you for a tornado to happen...It could be storming 5 miles up the road in the next city and since tornadoes move, it could be heading your way b/4 the storm..It never hurts to go to the basement and call the police or fire down there..Good luck

It sounds like they may be working on the system and are testing it. That's my best guess.
