It was true for me, but I know it's really just a myth. If your baby is awake and active it will be higher, and if they are sleeping it will be lower.

Thats what the wives tale says:
One belief that has been around for some time, and even had some acceptance in the medical community at one point, is that the fetal heartbeat differs for boys and girls. If you're having a girl, then the fetal heart rate will be above 140. A boy will have a heart rate below 140. However, that pesky science has reared its little head again to say that this is complete fiction. A baby's heart rate is not affected by its sex until it is born, when a girl's heart rate will increase considerably compared with boys during labor.

Unfortunatley thats an old wives tale. The faster the heartbeat the more active the baby is at that time. Im having a boy and his heart rate goes from 135-170 depending on if hes sleeping or rolling around.

It's an old wives' tale.
In the first and second trimester my baby's heartbeat was in the high 150's and everyone kept telling me it was a girl. Then in the third trimester the heartbeat dropped and is now about 135 most of the time and i'm having a boy.

I just went today to hear the babies heartbeat for the first time , I am 13 weeks. The doctor took forever to find the heartbeat. He did eventually find it but I was told if you have a tilted uterus it could cause it to be more difficult. I also saw the heartbeat at a sonogram at 10 weeks. The starting of the heartbeat is the most difficult- so if you already saw that- chances are you are fine. Call your doctor tomorrow and tell the you are stressed out. hopefully they will schedule a test to ease your mind. Best of luck-

At 12 weeks they are all girls. They don't develop the male gene until at least 13 weeks. My baby's heartrate was 165 at 10 weeks, 154 at 14 weeks, and 141 at 18 weeks. We found out at 18 weeks that it is a boy! Take that how you want to, but I think the theory is correct. Boys do tend to have slower heartrates in the womb.

Nope, sadly it is only an old wives tale. It is about as accurate as the Chinese calendar for the gender of your baby. I am 10 weeks and my baby's heartbeat was 135. Good Luck and Congratulations!

Most doctors say that if it's over 140 it will be a girl. My daughters heartbeat was fast too. Do you want a girl? Good luck, remember a healthy baby is what matters!!!!

No.
It's been shown by studies that there is no reliable external predictor of a baby's sex. All such "wive's tale" myths do no better than chance at determining the sex of the baby.
The only ways to know for sure are either an ultrasound test or amniocentesis.
