You can't teach someone over the internet. The basics about how the game works you can get from an encyclopedia, like the one online.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennis

As far as how to play. Stay balanced. Watch the ball. Move your weight into it, and make contact at about waste level. If you want some videos and other instrictions that might help with the different shots you can look at these websites:

www.usta.com

tennis.about.com

You really need to get out there with a private lesson from a good instructor. You need someone that is patient and will show you how to hit the ball correctly so you have a good foundation for your future tennis development.

Most importantly. Remember to have fun!

Alright first i would suggest taking some lessons, so you get a feel for how to play because it truely is a really fun game. Here are some basics.
-Always start out in ready position ( Two hands on the raquet [dominant hand on the bottom] and face towards the net)
-Go from low to high (start with your raquet by your side, and dont forget to turn your feet to the side the ball is coming too!) And follow through (finish over your shoulder)
-The score goes Love - 15 - 30 - 40 (40 All is also known as douce)- Game, server always says there score first
-When serving toss the ball straight and high so that your arm is fully extended when you hit the ball, and hit it into the box on the side opposite of you
-Alleys are only used for doubles

Hope this helps, watch some tennis to see how it is done, and get some lessons to get the feel for it! Enjoy and you will love it!

Be consistent, do not go for to much when you are starting out. Learn the correct strokes from a clinic or private lesson and then hit as many balls as you can the same way so it becomes second nature . Move your feet. Every good player runs down every ball until it bounces twice . It is an impossible question to answer well.
