I hear that a large majority of cross dressers are straight men. Why would a straight man want to dress up in women's lingerie?

I have a cross-dressing relative. It's generally an asexual compulsion, though sometimes sexuality is involved with their female partners during crossdressing events.

When a man has a compulsion to crossdress then this is associated with the production of neurotransmitters in his brain which gives him a very pleasurable and addictive response. The crossdresser will feel pleasure, sexual gratification, and fulfillment. He will find this response very very hard to resist. He will need it like an addict needs his drugs.

The question is why do some men get this neurotransmitter response and feel all of this by wearing female clothes, while the majority of men only feel stupid? The person must associate female clothes with female identity, beauty and sexuality. Then he must disassociate himself from his maleness and take on a female alter ego. In some ways this becomes a third sexual orientation -- heterosexuals, homosexuals and autosexuals. The crossdresser is in love with his female alter ego.

For a man asking the question, all I can say is to try on a proper fitting pair of nice woman's nylon panties. Not the men's kind. The material is thick and rough. The women's variety are soft on the skin, they are not heavy, and you can stay much cooler in the summertime down there, and not sweat as much. Besides, not all men are the rough type. There are plenty of non-aggressive men who love women.

Why should women get all the sexy, lacy things- it's not fair! We men have a right too you know! Now when they start wearing dresses all the time, I'll become a little worried. I think it's harmless fun to those who indulge, so I'd just let them be!!

Homosexuality is distinct from transvestism. Having an urge to dress in the clothes of the opposite sex does not necessarily imply that intercourse is similarly restricted.

Good question. Probably because they wouldn't, and the comment is based on wishful thinking, not fact.
