My brakes broke today. when I went to push on the brakes, my car slammed forward and made this loud sound like metal slamming into metal. My brakes are so sensitive now. All I have to do is barely touch the brake petal and my car slams forward. The car doesn't seen to have as bad of a problem braking in reverse. What could be wrong?

Don't sound like disc brakes to me. Disc might get real noisy but not react like this. The reverse statement is a clue. Not knowing what year or brand of vehicle we are worklng with I will make an educated guess.
The grabbing or locking up going forward sounds as if a brake SHOE has come loose from the lining. In reverse it would push the lining back on the shoe and not be as noisy and probably not lock up.
You didn't mention any steering problems so I would look at rear first.
If this is the problem, don't drive till you get new brakes all around.

ok your problem is with the front braked. Assuming they are disc brakes, you need new pads and possibly calipers and the rotors need to be turned. Don't waste any time because you are probably dangerously close to needing new rotors.

It could be a loose rotor. Don't drive it like that unless you intend to kill yourself or somebody else.
