Let bygones be bygones: To forgive

2006-10-19 10:12:32 · answer #1 · answered by JaMoke 4 · 1 0

It means let things that happened in the past stay in the past. Don't keep them in the present. Like a resentment, someone wronged you and years have gone by but you refuse to forgive them. That would be an example of not letting by gones be by gones. Let the things that are gone by be gone by. Good advice.

It means to forget the past. Everyone has been hurt at some time in their lives or they most certainly will be, but if we continue to fume over the pain it lingers on in our lives like a garbage can full of stinking garbage. The best thing to do is to let bygones be bygones, or leave the past in the past where it belongs instead of constantly looking in the rear view mirror.

A 'by gone' is something that's been and gone. So the phrase 'let by gones be by gones' means that those things that have been and gone should STAY gone. Don't dredge them back up again :)

Let bygones be bygones. Just means to forgive and forget. Let the past stay in the past.

it means "let the things that have gone away or are in the past stay there " like when you bring back past feuds or resentments you are told " let by gones be by gones"

Let bygones be bygones. That means let it go man.

I wouldn't say it exactly means to forgive but it just means stop bringing that shiznit up all the time. Stop holding a grudge...and let it go.

Best put by Outkast, "Let bygones be bygones, you can go on and get the hell on"

"let bygones be bygones"
A "bygone" is something which has already happened; the time when it happened has "gone by". We say "let bygones be bygones" to people who have had a disagreement in the past when we want them to move forward leaving their disagreement in the past. Example: "You and I have had our disagreements; let's let bygones be bygones." {often used with: Forgive and forget}

The full expression is "let bygones be bygones", which means "let that which lies in the past remain in the past" or "don't dredge up the past".
