all right. let's get down to the nitty gritty, shall we? in the USA, there is free speech. movie producers and distributors and directors and writers that live in the USA will collaborate and release a movie. the writer will write a script and shop it around... it could go to the director who tries to get someone to fund it and then if possible, get a distributor to back it. these companies are privately owned, they are not the US government. A film will get made if those involved think there would be an audience that would pay to see it. These people are trying to make money. This is America! Land of the free and the home of the brave. Where anyone can start with nothing and die a millionaire. In the history of movie making, films that portray events in history have been made... such as Pearl Harbour and Titanic. But other countries have done the same thing. For instance, the film Der Untergang (The Downfall), a movie about the final hours of the Nazi regime, filmed in Germany. It's not an unusual thing, really. People watch documentaries all the time about wars and histories and tragedies... a film based on actual events is nothing more than a humanized documentary.

The main part of the terrorist attack was of course tragic.
But that is only one of millions of stories that came out of that event. They could make movies about that day forever and never tell it all. Some stories are amzing feats of heroism, some are about miracle stories of survival, and some are about the ever present danger that we all faced every day leading up to the attack and every day since. True there is money to be made, but people should be paid to do the work that they do, and if the work that they do is to tell stories that need to be told, well this is a huge heartbreaking, tearjerking story that needs to be told.
It would be nice if some of the proceeds were donated to survivors, but the truth is that the state of New York was nearly bankrupted by the assault on its economy, and just filming it in New York City probably gave a much needed boost to the economy.

Well for World Trade Center, MTV did a half hour sit down with the director, two of the actors and one of the firefighters who survived. The Firefighter said that if you don't make a movie now, we will forget the details, and we won't be able to pass the story on to our kids. Don't you think that the movie would be different if it was made 5 years from now? Most movies are made to document and make us think. Like if I hadn't seen United 93, I would never have thought what they really went trough on that plane. However, some people make movies for money. They are many reasons.

The USA?...last time I looked it wasn't the USA.. It was some Hollywood producers. And we should make movies about it. It was a pivotal point in our history and we all need to know about it and remember it.

put simply, people will pay to watch it.
America is the most consumer driven society in the world.
If they can make a fast buck then they'll do it.
Don't get me wrong, it can be done in the "right way" Unites 93 for example was a brilliant file made with the co-operaqtion of the families of the victims but it can also go the wrong way and tbh i'm a bit disgusted with Oliver Stone.

It's best not to concern oneself with Hollywood's motives for making such a film.
On a personal level, I could never fogive myself to go to such a film for the sake of entertainment, but then on the other hand it could help console those deeply shaken by the incident by exploring the positives.

Because it sells. People will go see these movies no matter what kind of or how bad the tragidy was. The sooner they get it out the better for them. They dont care about any of the families who had people involved, they just want to be first out.

It is easier to sway public support and opinion if you have something visible to show besides news stories.
Politics, laws, and eventually Government positions will be broadcast and created.
These movies help sway public support for these endeavors.

It is mainly about the money. Think Titanic (how big was that huh?). It's also good publicity and hey its a free ticket to win an Oscar.

Because society cares more about money than the feelings of victims' families and friends.
