Pick one:
1 - The UN (I know, I know - this isn't even an answer to your question but this is one of the excuses they use),
2 - Yak-Yak (they call it 'dialogue', 'the conversation', and use other pinko, Soviet-style phraseology to explain away doing nothing),
3 - 'Consulting with our friends' (what they mean is "Gee, if our friends don't want us to do X, then I guess we'd better not do it or they won't LIKE us!"),
4 - Blame America First (still a popular parlor game with the Weak Sisters), or
5 - Blather on about "domestic programs" that are a higher priority (funny thing about their six years of whining about the budget deficit and "spending in Washington" - they now want to wear the mantle of the party of fiscal responsibility when anyone with more than a single brain cell knows their real complaint isn't the amount of government spending - it's WHAT the money is being spent on; when they talk about wanting to raise taxes they're also talking about spending even MORE money (duh!)).
Obviously, the list could be many tens of excuses long but you get the general idea.

Well first I'm liberal so here is what I would do, can't speak for anyone else.
First this country is not so free any longer. And I'm NOT Pro Terrorist, I'm Pro America and the Constitution. there is nothing to stop the government under these new laws from coming after anyone of us.
I would close the Borders period, the Hell what Mexico says. I would build a 15' 2' thick cement wall with electrified Barbed wire on the top. before a Terrorist just walks over the border with a nuke. north or south. secure the ports the degree that we can. increase border patrol. set immigration quotas. run checks on all people here on Visas, make sure they are were there supposed to be and deported everyone on expired visa and illegals. I would not invade a sovern nation Like it or not a sovern nation can do what they want in there own borders, I would try to detour as much as possible. but that's all you can do. Attempt to make a plan to get out of Iraq so it doesn't turn into Vietnam. require intelligence sharing among agencies.
Try and not do things that invoke terrorism, like invading another country unwarranted. Give the UN some Balls
Thats some of what I would do.

We can start with protecting our own borders instead of sending the troops to a place that didn't start 9/11. We can have better intellegence here on our own ground. We can stop blaming a president who had the largest military even though he made some of the biggest cuts to get a surplus that has pretty much funded the first part of this war. We could get the target of 9/11 and crucify him Bin Laden in public. Instead of trying to make examples of Daddy's enemies, and scoring points for the oil companies. Hey did we forget about Bin Laden totally? There is a lot of terrorism going on in the world. We are one of the biggest.
We can stop raving about a President that actually sold the weapons being used against us (Reagan - remember Iran/ Contra) and focus on trying to keep our troops alive. Our best defense is at home. What are we going to accomplish over there?

First of all, not every liberal thinks the same thing. I know it's easier to generalize and not have to think, but in the long run thinking is much more helpful. And to answer your question, they would do: something. You don't seriously think liberals want the country to be attacked do you? They and the republicans would both do something. Except for the republicans it means becoming an all-powerful totalitarian state by scaring people into doing whatever the party wants. Just like 1984...

The only effective way to fight terrorism is to start acting as a democratic, fair and responsible nation. Acts of aggression by the US cause more terrorists to be spawned, democracy is by far the greatest thing we have to offer but if we keep trying to ram it down people's throats they will react with violence. If we can act firm, be fair and treat people as equals instead of our inferiors you will find that the threat of terrorism will recede. Look at Israel and the Palestine, the UK and Ireland - try and acting tough on terror only increases the terror. Hence what would liberals do? Enact the principles of the constituition and the US would be much much safer.

I'm not a liberal, but I will try to answer anyway.
1. Apologize to other countries when they attack us.
2. Blame Republicans (after all, it has to be someone's fault that the Libs can't come up with a decent plan and they like to blame Republicans for everything anyway).
3. Start forcing American citizens to live like other people from other countries in order to not offend anyone.
4. Kick back and relax when we are attacked.
5. Anytime something doesn't go their way, come up with a conspiracy theory in order for it to not be their fault.
6. Get rid of all weapons and military in the U.S. in the hopes of our enemies just going away if we don't fight back.

Defence is defence. There wont be much of a difference in their methods. The real difference will be in their Idealogy and approach. The will be more concerend with making peace with their enemys rather than crushing them. Our enemys will understand that better and eventually diplomacy will prevail over bloodshed. Nobody wants to see their own people die after all. They will get rid of the "Revenge" ethic. I think that is what has gotten us into such a hot soup at the moment. After all they will represent the peace loving interlectual rather than the gun toteing redneck. Which one would you respond to better?

you're an fool. Our unlawful invasion of Iraq and the torture of POW's does no longer something to preserve usa against terrorists! Edit: To Wes, I extremely stand by way of my assertions that the invasion of Iraq did no longer help in our conflict against Al-Quaida nor did the torture of Iraqi and Afghan POW's. I do relish your acknowledgment that liberals do no longer hate usa in spite of the undeniable fact that
