Do you have a spelling and grammar program?

Well you will need more help than this if you are writing a report. But you can go to format-font-subscript or hit control-equal sign to get the computer to do subscripts. If you still need help, try using the help function on Word. Unfortunately, Word is an absolutely awful program to do any serious writing in physics.

For the lower level letter, highlight the letter then use:

Format --> Font --->then select subscript

You would select Superscript to do the 2 in X^2
