Everybody thinks the 70s were all disco. Disco sucked then and it still does.

Compare it with todays' music and I would say no. Each decade has had its own genre's and pioneering affect on music. I am a 80's guy but I also like the 70's Disco vibe and bands like Bread, Areosmith, etc. Five classics:

Dream On, Areosmith;
Fooled Around and Fell in Love, Elvin Bishop;
American Pie, Don McLean;
You Sexy Thing, Hot Chocolate;
Cocain, Eric Clapton.

The pop of that era was absolutely insipid. The Night Chicago Died, Playground In My Mind, You're Having My Baby.....atrocious beyond words!! However, the rock of that era was brilliant! Some Examples:

Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
Layla - Derek and the Dominoes
Sugar Magnolia - Grateful Dead
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Dazed and Confused - Led Zeppelin
Close to the Edge - Yes
The Question - Moody Blues
Goin' Home - Ten Years After

gotta stop now, or I could keep on going and going and going.........
