I had a very sore ear ache which is now gone but wax has been discharging which went from brown, orange, yellow and now to green! I heard it may be an infection- has anyone ever had this?

Yes, the change in your ear wax is the result of an infection. See your doctor ASAP. If left untreated, an ear infection can cause hearing loss.

is your tank near a window or in direct sunlight? the sun is a huge contributing factor to the growth of algae. also, if there's enough room in your tank, you should think about adding some algea-eating fish. the common plecos you find in the pet store can grow to over a foot long in adult size, so i'd reccomend one of the smaller breeds. an otocinclus (a small catfish that grows no bigger than around an inch) is also an excellent addition as they are very docile. best to keep 2 or more. another good answer would be to go to your local pet shop and ask them what the problem could be (of course without lying about the parameters of the tank and water as most prospective fish owners do). of course however, there are many employees that really dont have a clue other than what the info says on the tanks.. or if you have the money, try buying the water, like those you get in those big blue jugs that you refill at the grocery store. cant go wrong with good clean purified water (unless it really is the sun that's doing most of this).

Where is the algae? Is it just your water turning green or is it also growing on the side of your tank and decorations etc? As most people have said reduce the amount of light your tank is getting so try changing you lighting so it gives 4 to 6 hours a day only. Plecs are not the best algae eaters in the world as they are lazy, if you don't have Clown Loach snails are a option, or my favourite are Bristle-nose Catfish who are the hardest working algae cleaners you will ever have in your tank and normally breed well if you get a pair from the start. I would also look at the filter system you have is it man enough to cope with the amount of water in your tank, I would always recommend an external filter. Just as a warning once you have algae it can be really difficult to get rid of. Drop me a note if I can help further.

I had an ear infection a couple of weeks ago, but to be honest I went to the doctors before my earwax starting turning funny colours!! So my advice is go to the docs. Mine gave me a spray which got rid straight away.

Go now before it turns PURPLE!!!!

yeah its highly likely to be an infectyion. If it doesn't hurt and you haven't had it long, get some ear drops from hyour local health food store and use them religiously. If still doens't start to clear up within a couple of days...get to your doctor fast. An internal medicine doc should be able to get right on this.

Go see a pharmacist or GP. There's some infection going on there! Pus can turn green when oxidised.

I've never had it, but it does sound like you had some type of inner ear infection and you should have went to the doctor when it was changing colors. It's never to late to go!
