Well you're a sweetie! Bravo to you for being able to step above it all. Best way to shut down such comments is like with anything else...shine a light on it. When someone says that kind of comment, look them in the eye with confidence and say that any kind of hatred, even in fun, is hatred, and it hurts people. Tell them that if they want to say such things, don't say it to you because you don't listen to hatred.

Tell them that you love them but they need to stop being hateful towards gays. Tell them that some of your friends and family fall under being gay. Tell them that your respect them and all but maybe they can keep their comments to their self's. Everybody has their opinions on things but some times they need to be kept private towards other peoples feelings. Maybe they dint know it but they may be hurting others. If they really love you back then they will respect you and keep their opinions theirs. Just because you may feel deeply and disagree, doesn't always mean to go out loud and express their self's in public. If they really have a problem they should get therapy, get a journal, speak to further authorities, or just grow up and get a life. GOD DID NOT CREATE US TO BE THE SAME OR EQUAL IN MAN KIND! Just remember you are you and tell them how you feel. I hope i helped. sometimes i go a little over board.

You're right, God doesn't hate. Your best bet if to ignore rude and hateful comments. The so called Christians that might say hateful things to upset you are not true Christians. God doesn't make trash and it seems homosexuals are born with that orientation. In the Bible Jesus never once addressed homosexuality so it couldn't have been on His mind. It is mentioned in the Bible in the Old Testament, but a Christian believes that the New Testament was a new covenant with the people and the New Testament never once mentions homosexuality. So go on being friends wtih your gay friends and relative and keep on loving them and respecting them and ignore the ignorant.

There isn't much you can do about the ignorant, as seen in Yahoo answers.
Simply be who you are, and if they say something while you are with them, tell them you would prefer they not talk like that in front of you. Tell them its not the way you believe God wants you to act and while you can't control their actions, you don't want to hear it. Who knows, they might actually be interested in hearing what you have to say and learn something from you. You have a valuable message, don't keep it to yourself but understand that people who hate do it because of their own insecurities and ignorance. As my great Aunt Greet used to say "You can't fix stupid."

God hates no one, and has created everyone just as they are - gay, staight, or somewhere in between.
Tell those haters exactly how you feel when they preach their bigotry - it's the only way they will change. If they don't change, they certainly aren't "christians."
People have to learn to hate. Some people learn this from their families - other from their houses of worship, unfortunately.
Good luck!

What do you need help with? What you need is applause! You have a well rounded stance, respect and love for others, and you don't discriminate. You deserve a lot of respect and I certiantly hope you get it. As for all of the hate speech - do what we do. Either ignore it, or educate yourself with every bible passage and law you can find to attempt to debate them. Usually hate-speakers will not want to debate, and cannot be swayed. But you will have the knowledge that you have done your homework and they have not.

That sounds great!
You don't necessarily have to tell everybody that you want to quit being hatefull; acting normal to gay people is enough. Just accept other people and in my opinion that is a great job. Even more cause you felt not so great about them in first instant.
and with acting normal I mean, act to them like to act to other (hetero/ 'normal') people
very nice you want to change! I think that is hard for you, to make this step

You are right, as far as I'm concerned, God doesn't hate.
And thank you, with all my heart, for being honest to us.
As a few folks here have said; "Let folks know that you don't like to hear their hateful comments."
They, will slow down and soon stop what they are saying, at least in fron of you.
Have a great day
