There is no ferry service, but the train service is quite adequate.
for train schedules and prices go to:
www.sncf.fr
There is also a fairly good bus service, but I haven't had luck finding their website.
(check at the reception desk of your hotel).

Villefranche Sur mer is something like 8-10 kms to Nice, the best is to take the train.
then same from Nice to Cassis, but I think you ll have to go to Marseille, then take the bus from Marseille to Cassis.
The nice thing, is that the train is just following the coast, and it is beautiful.
enjoy
From an unhabitant of the Nice area :-)

the best way to travel between is of course the train. You can book your ticket on www.voyages-sncf.com
If you buy your tickets not to late you will have smart prices.
Moreover, you can have the web site in english (look down of the first page).
