Its been a week since the check bounced, the person has not contacted me. I was wondering if their bank had paid for it or not?

Your bank probably paid the check, meaning they didn't return it, but they charged you the fee. So you wouldn't hear from the person you wrote the check to, since it was paid by your bank they have no idea it was nsf.

NSF Charge is Non Sufficient Funds. There may be something in the rules on the account which you signed when you opened the account that states the bank will charge you a NSF fee if your balance falls below a certain level. It is a totally bogus charge in my opinion and just a way to get money for the banks' bottom line profit. Call the bank and ask them about the charge. Explain to them that you did not understand about the charges and ask them to reverse the charge. It sounds like it was an honest mistake and usually the bank will forgive the first mistake. If it happens again, they will hit you. Make sure you have them explain the exact rules to you.

Do you see the check cleared as well? Sometimes my bank lists bounced checks and overdraft fees for checks they cleared as the same thing. Look up the check number on your online banking and it will tell you if they cleared it. If the check amount isn't there, they turned it away and you still owe that person money.

Usually if it isn't a large amount and you don't usually bounce checks, the bank will pay it for you. You should go to your bank and ask them about the fine, and they will be able to tell you if they paid the check or not.

Inquire about overdraft protection. You may be covered and not even realize it.
