That you even can make such a statement demonstrates clearly that you have no understanding of our country's laws, or what is actually occuring in the name of protecting our rights. Accusing people who are concerned and angry over the actions of our government of "defending terrorists" is a cheap shot, and has no bearing on the larger issues.
I understand that 9/11 made you, and many other people, afraid. The problem is that you should have been afraid long before that, if you had any comprehension of the direction our government's actions was taking this country. Suddenly becoming aware that something has happened that frightens you does not mean that history began at that moment.
If you really want to understand the issues you ask about, it's not hard to find all the answers you want. Go read about what people have to say about why they oppose the Bush administration. Learn why so many are worried about the acts and bills you named, and why they think they spell trouble for not just American civil rights, but human rights everywhere.
If you can do that and still claim that you do not understand the debate, or the concerns so many of us have over the actions of our government, then I submit that you choose to misunderstand for your own reasons, probably born out of your fear, and it is your conscience and humanity that is lacking, not your intellect.

Those who defend the rights of terrorists aren't as pleased to be alive as I am. Those who are upset over the Patriot Act or the MCA do not seem to realize that of necessity things have to change during wartime. I am happy to temporarily give up some of my rights if it means somewhere a terrorist will be stopped before we have more 9/11's. The terrorists are everywhere and they want one thing: they want us dead. All of us. Dead. In my opinion the terrorists have NO RIGHTS when what they do will kill innocent Americans and all other freedom loving individuals. We will either allow our government any and all options to stop them or they will kill us. If it takes water-boarding to get valuable information from captured terrorists, so be it. If it takes sleep deprivation, so be it. This is wartime!! The rules are different. It's that simple!

Yeah, I will tell you why. Becuase they can arrest anyone they want and say they are a terrorist. In addition they do not have to have a warrant, and ppl who are arrested are not assured a trial. You need to look at these things before asking such a ridiculous question. Our freedoms are being taken away everyday, all in the name of 9/11 which was an inside job, planned and carried out by elements of the U.S government. Wake Up!

In the UK over the last 12 months over 1100 Islamic people have been detained under the anti-terrorist bill, yet only 8 have faced any criminal charges. In Manchester, where I live, the police removed whole families from their homes, whilst armed police officers held them at gunpoint. The final result was 1 Somalian man faced motoring offenses.
Innocent peoples lives are being blighted by these breaches of civil rights. A teenager was shot by a policeman, and had done nothing. Our police executed a young Brazilian who had outstayed his entry visa, and he was a Catholic!
These laws are only the start, whenever new bills get passed, the authorities claim they need more, and more bills get passed. Ultimately, you live in apolice state. Roll on Stalin.

WHAT!?!?!? Are you kidding? The Patriot Act doesn't violate my rights as an American? So you don't mind the government being able to spy on whomever they wish? And you don't mind torture being totally fine in this time of war? The United States is the biggest terrorist nation of them all. This government is two steps away from fascism.
