real hard into 1st gear as if you had popped a clutch. I have had it looked at and scanned at GMC and another trans shop. nothing shows up on the scanner. any suggestions or remedies?

Only one: Get a can or bottle of "SLICK' It is an additive that cured the problem on my wife's Jeep Gran Cherokee, It is the only thing that you can do that won't cost a fortune. If it doesn't work then you should find out whether you have pressure shifting or Electronic Shifting. Scanning won't show anything unless the Computer is involved and apparently it is not.
Also make sure you have the right type of xmission fluid and at the right level.

It's slipping . Slick might get you a few more miles, but it will make the problem harder to find and could make it worse. If all the shops did was look for codes, they're not very good shops.
