Please if you can, advise which Windows 2000 platform are you using. I had Windows 2000 Server NT Technology for many years. It was actually the very best of all the platforms that Microsoft puts out. Only because it was built in Australia. As all the other platforms are pure junk out of Redmond, Washington.

Windows 2000 Server was very secure and required very few patches as compared to all the other platforms. The only program is that is was almost impossible to find software for Windows 2000 Server that was compatible. (I would think this is the reason why AVG an Avast freeze up your system). I had the same problem with just about every anitvirus software, antispyware software. Plus almost impossible to find compatible softwar of any kind.

So I decided to get rid of Windows 2000 an installed Windows XP Prof. An I don't have that problem with any software that I run.

Below are the a list of what I consider to be the very best free antispyware an antimalware programs. You can check their web page to see if their programs are compatible with your platform. If not don't install as they will not scan an only freeze your system.

http://www.superantispyware.com This is an excellent state of the art technology spyware program that I use an always will detect spyware that is not found by any other software. This program is free with daily updates. Scans all 175,000 objects in my system. (No hidden or embedded spyware or trojans).

http://www.emsisoft.com This antispyware program has a free version an a pay for version. The only difference is that the free you don't get a guard in the tray and your updates you must do on a manual basis. Excellent program with daily updates that scans your entire system.. Scans all 175,000 objects in my system. (Out of Austria).

http://www.ewido.net Download their program an it is free. If you want to update to their purchase version you have 30 days. The only difference is you don't get the guard or the auto updates with the free version. Another excellent program I use and has daily updates and scans all 175,000 objects in my system. (Out of Prague)

There is a company in Beijing, China that I used, an is used by the Government of China. This antivirus program supoort Windows 2000, Windows 2000 server. I used it an it was the absolute most advanced technology in the world. Never had one virus in over nine years. The only problem if you are low on money they charge you a one time fee of $29.99 for life. This includes all new versions, updates, and support. So I consider it a great deal.

Here are the details below:

Being a clinical psychiatrist I have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean from all virus/spyware/malware.

I tested every free and purchase antivirus system known. An I found only one that actually works 100%. Never had a virus or spyware in my system in nine years.

Go to, www.filseclab.com and download thier Twister AntiTrojan Virus program. (You will have to pay a small one time fee). You will never have to pay an annual fee for updates, support or new versions. The one time fee is for life. ($29.99)

The software company is located in Beijing, China. They have excellent support, frequent large signature updates an as always all new versions are free. No annual fee for anything.

Comes with a real time scanner that really works. Actually I am quite amazed over the nine years how well it works.

Scans memory on startup.
Real time scanning in the background.
Open any webpage with an embedded trojan/spyware or malware and scanner will clean on the spot. An It is really removed from your system.

Download any kind of program from zips, all compressed files, software files, music, etc, etc, an if there is a hidden embedded trojan, spyware, malware, this program will stop the download and clean. An will advise you to end the download.

Will even find a virus in the installer wizard, like "Wise Installer". And will stop the installation while it is being installed and clean. Plus this program always will trace back who installed the trojan.

I had a trojan in and wizard installer. Twister caught the trojan and stopped the installation. I wrote the origianl company and told them the wizard installer had an embedded trojan to steal your data. The company now uses thier own installer.

You can't beat this software for a one time purchase fee only. Actually I don't know of any antivirus progam that even comes close to this state of the art technology.

All I can say it is worth the one time fee. Your pc cost alot of money and you don't want it destroyed. Plus your privacy is protected at all times.

There is nothing in it for me to praise this program. I tell it like it is. If it is garbage then I will say so.

IF YOU ARE USING WINDOWS XP PROF., SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOUR SYSTEM AS THEY WILL NOT FREEZE UP ON YOU. I USE WINDOWS XP PROF. YOU WILL HAVE TO CHECK EACH WEBPAGE I GAVE YOU TO SEE IF IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 2000 IF THAT IS WHAT YOU HAVE RUNNING AS A PLATFORM IN OUR PC.

Good luck,

Clinical Psychiatrist, France

for anti spy ware I would use spy bot and also ad-aware. Also there is a great program call spy blaster which keeps the spy ware from getting on in the first place, it really works!!! As far as anti virus software to me there is no safe or worthy free ware. The only thing I would recommend is www.trendmicro.com has what is called house call, which will check and remove viruses for free, but you can't load it on and use it to on your computer. It is only worth is to really buy your anti-virus software. Try Bit Defender, it is the cheapest and the best.

Before down loading anything else, I would go to Trend Micro House Call and run their full scan. It may take a bit (mine took almost an hour) but it is extremely thorough and scans for and removes evrything. I love AVG, and using it in conjunction with a Zone Alarm firewall, Spybot, Ad-aware, Windows Defender, and periodically using the aforementioned Trend Micro and Windows Live One Care seems to work pretty good. Also, everyone keeps telling me to use MozillaFirefox instead of I.E. for my browser - no viruses and less cookies. So far they seem right. Good Luck.

you can try a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus..

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

download firefox for free, Just have a try:
