These customs taxes are beyond the control of the sellers abroad. It's the luck of the draw really as to which items will get spot checked by the Customs . If your item doesn't get checked then that's your good fortune but if it does then you will get a card left thorugh your door from the postman and you will have to collect your goods from the local sorting office and pay the duty before they will hand over the goods to you. So basically it's your choice whether you order from abroad or not.

I've never had to pay tax on items bought from abroad, I buy a lot from ebay. I'd see what the seller has to say.

You should not have to pay tax on gift items or cd dvd's as they don't cost alot.

I have brought many things on ebay and have never paid tax. Get in touch with the seller, because they should of checked that before posted the item on ebay.

It's called import duty. And goodness, you must be young if you think people only pay tax on bikes and cars. Have you never heard of VAT, which you pay on lots of things you buy, that is also another form of taxation.

Yeah, you are required to pay the duties when you purchase something from China.

But if the value as shown on the shipping bill or customs invice is less than usd90, generally such duties are exempted.

I have bought 2 things from Hong Kong, with no customs letter dropping though my door 4 weeks later. I think it is to put you of buying . This info is usually on British sites, I think they are trying to put you off, as they are the ones that promote this info on their bids.
