if i may quote from the past
Benjamin Franklin
Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.
Even peace may be purchased at too high a price

First they came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up,
because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up,
because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up,
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one
left to speak up for me.
by Rev. Martin Niemoller, 1945.
its not a Issue about giving terrorist protection. its the denying the fundamental rights that we as a country and a people pride ourselves on and preach to others. how can we preach something to others we do not do? and there is nothing stopping the government from coming after us, your average citizens. once you give away one freedom the door is open to the rest. When and were will it stop? first the patriot act now this what next?
People do not understand that when people are against this, its not pro terrorism, it pro America and the constitution the foundation of our country. And the point of what will be next. don't people understand that they are messing with ALL OF OUR RIGHTS AS US CITIZENS? We should be nervous. look at history.. and what happened to people and countries when rights started to be taken away.

History has a way of repeating itself. Hitler was given the same powers; as President Bush by the majority Republican Senate and House. The Bill in essences allows the President to label anyone; including American citizens, as "Enemy Combatants". With comes the ability to lock you up in prison, anywhere without right to due process. No charges ever have to be established; and they can hold a person forever. It does away with the 6th Amendment.
Hitler had the same power in Nazi Germany, and people disappeared all the time, for whatever reason. The scary similarities; was that Hitler as Bush; used scared tactics on the citizens to hand over this abusive power. Our Forefathers, must be spinning in their graves. Our Constitutional rights have been changed forever. We are no longer as Democratic as once believed, but have become some of sort of regime; we use to see on Mission Impossible episodes.

The Military Commissions Act of 2006 is one of the most important pieces of legislation in the war on terror. This bill will allow the Central Intelligence Agency to continue its program for questioning key terrorist leaders and its operatives...

If we had any credibility with the worlds governments it is gone. Passing a law that allows our government to torture a human being is wrong no matter what rational that you try to come up with. If truly value human life then you have to believe that this bill is wrong. I am not just ashamed of the Bush administration but of any politician that helped pass this bill.

I think this bill has been deliberately and grossly mischaracterized.
I believe recent court rulings and this legislation give the enemy more rights than they have had in the last 230 years of our history.
Your description is way off.
If this many people are this deluded about our government and the law, crying the sky is falling at the drop of a hat, then we indeed are in sad shape as a country.

Good bye civil and constitutional rights, I'll miss you dearly. The bill itself won't impact too many American citizens because not many of us are harboring terrorists or hiding information, but what it implies is far more sinister. We are handing our rights away to our government in favor of their overzealous "protection."

This Act represents an attack on the US Constitution.
The Supreme Court has, numerous times, ruled that the US Constitution applies not only to US citizens, but also to aliens on US soil.
The Constitution says that "the privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended" unless we are in the middle of a rebellion or an invasion. Because it applies to aliens, as well as to US citizens, the Constitution forbids the US Government from suspending habeas corpus for aliens.
The Military Commissions Act denies habeas corpus to aliens who are designated "enemy combatants". This is a clear violation of the US Constitution.
The fact that Congress would pass such an Act, and that the President would sign it, when it is clearly an attempt to diminish the scope of the Constitution, shows that those in Congress who voted for the Act, as well as the President, himself, are "enemies of the Constitution".
All of them need to be removed from office as quickly as may be.
