I recently started an online store. I've had plenty of visitors who've spent a long time on the site but no buyers. I'm thinking it's because no one trusts me because I'm new and not a big named company. Anyone have any suggestiong of how I can get my reputation up so people will start buying? I'm already using Paypal for my shopping cart.

Here are some tips to improve your reputation:
1. Demonstrate that you are a real business - Include an “About Us” section on your site; Put your contact email information and a telephone number; If possible, include your physical address in your Contact Us or About Us pages; consider putting in photos of your staff (if any) or the head of the business; create a section where all your press mentions are included
2. Consider creating a “first-time visitor” page. It is important to make a great first impression to your visits
3. Get a toll free 1-800 number. A nationwide toll free number for your business conveys a sense of size and importance. For many callers, it will mean that your company is legitimate given the fact that they know they can easily reach the company when they need to talk to a human.
4. Provide evidence of your product's success - include testimonials, customer raves, great reviews, and even photos of satisfied customers or customers using your products
5. Give customers signals of protection and safety - use secured socket layer (SSL) encryption. Use services such as Thawte or ScanAlert (Hacker Safe) to reassure users of the security of their information. Get BBB seal
6. Clearly specify your return policies. One of the most common barriers to buying on the Web is the difficulty in returning items.
7. Answer email questions from visitors quickly. Customers who email and ask about your products show a keen interest in your products, and are very likely to convert into sales if handled appropriately.

I agree with a lot of the suggesions, especially the one listing the email address, return policies, employees, etc.
Consider that people want to be able to get their money back if not satisfied. They will be more confident if you use paypal, VISA, etc., and also list rates for delivery.
The idea about the physical address is a very good one. Consider connecting it with a picture of a building that you can rent space in, even if it's 2 square feet. People want convenience, but being able to "see a physical space" will make them confident as well.
If you can get your foot in the door at a place that rents to many sellers, like an "Antique mall," then you have a physical address.

Testimonials. make the buying process fast easy and simple.
I am an internet media consultant I do this for a living.
Make sure your page load time is very very fast! anything longer than a couple seconds is slow.
Make sure that in order to purchase they can buy an item in 2 pages or less.
Make sure your site is secure.
Make it easy to view and but items.
An advretising echnique is to make it look like you have limited inventory - overstock.com does it. make it look like you only have a few left and its a special price - create that sense of urgency to buy now.
If something is on for a special price make sure its easy to see and the discount is clearly understood.
If something costs $20. say its $25 but on sale for $20.. so the impression of savings is there and you make the same amount of money.
I will help you with anything else just give me a shout..
Good Luck!

Stick with it, maybe slow at first, but as the buyers mount up, so will your reputation. Also, do you have a FAQ section, maybe with return policies? That might set shoppers at ease.
btw, what do you sell? is it legal for you to post your store's address in the "more details" here?

I own a "Comet Cleaners" dry cleaning business...You can buy into that franchise, but I recently had to change the name because of some financial problems with the franchise owners.
I don't know, you could post signs on the web, tell folks about it.
What's the web address of your place, and do you sell any knives of any kind, only wondering?...I collect knives, and especially Japanese swords.
