Because that's what you're more attracted to. Beauty is ultimately in the eye of the beholder, but in this case I actually happen to agree with you. I personally would also go for a Mediterranean or Slavic woman before I would most Northern/Western European women. But again this is just my taste, and apparently yours heh. These areas are more diverse because they have always been at the crossroads of different migrating tribes and groups of people from all over Europe and the Mediterranean. Iberia, Italy, and the Balkans in particular have all experienced wave after wave of invasion, migration, and/or settlement over the millenia, hence the greater diversity in looks there. Everything from blond hair and blue eyes to black hair and olive skin may be seen there, with most falling somewhere in the middle. And yes, the facial features tend to differ somewhatt. For example, I can often tell that someone is Italian or Slavic by his/her facial features, even if blond and blue-eyed. As for the U.S., you're pretty much correct that most white Americans are predominantly of northern/western European ancestry, hence the white population tends to primarily reflect these traits. The three largest white ancestries are indeed German, English, and Irish, and when you add in Scandinavians, Dutch, Scottish, etc., it becomes clear that white Americans collectively are heavily of northern/western European descent. "Ethnic" whites are only common in the Northeast, Chicago, and to a lesser extent in parts of California or southern Florida. This is probably why even though most white Americans are of mixed European ancestry, they still look mostly northern/western European because the mixes are pretty similar in most cases.
