The Kenmore 38440 whole water filter system is most often recommended in reviews. The filter attaches to the water main and provides filtered water for drinking, bathing, cooking, laundry and dishwashers. There is a bypass system that allows you to choose between filtered and unfiltered water. The advantages of whole house filtering are faster flow rate and less clogging than other systems. Professional installation is recommended. A filter isn't included with this model, so plan on adding about $15 for a sediment filter or a chemical/odor/taste filter.

There is a whole house water filter by PurePlex. It is called the PurePlex 300 Whole House Water Filter. It filters your water down to 5 microns by removing sediments and rust, then reduces chlorine, odors, and tastes. It also has a cartridge which will protect your home's plumbing and appliances. It is not a water softener but offers a lot of similar benefits. The thing I like about it is that it is very affordable unlike many others. Good Luck!

This may sound like a smart *** answer, but it is placed here for those that "read" to ponder! The best whole house filter is the human body! We drink all kinds of crap and piss out 97% pure non-toxic water and 3% protein and elements the body did not require at the time, all medicinal I might add, containing antibodies unique to the manufacturer. I think the question should be how do we separate this product for reuse, pills and the best water around!!! research Urine therapy...apparently I like answering questions and call them 211's the answer of a 411 or request for information, thanx for the opportunity, oh! ya I like the ultralight variety and reverse osmosis combination..

PRE FILTER FOR WHOLE HOUSE - WHIRLPOOL - LOWES
GE - HOME DEPOT

YOU NEED 2 ( NOT IN SERIES) 1" / 1 1/4" SUPPLY, SPLIT TO 2- 3/4" LINES TO FILTERS, & THEN BACK TO 1" / 1 1/4" SUPPLY, SOFTENER, HOUSE ( TOP ONE WITH CLEAR ACRYLIC BOTTOM TO SEE IF DIRTY )

YOU MIGHT USE R/O ON A SINGLE FAUCET, BUT I'VE FOUND THE SAME FILTER BODY, W/ A BETER CARTRIDGE TO BE SATISFACTORY.

goto your local plumbing supply house and get a water test kit
usually a dollar or less.
send it in and see what they say you really need
the test is free with no commitment to buy.
the paper work will probably go back to the supply house (not sure though)
