First of all I am very much conservative. I dont believe any democratic president would "simply cut and run". That is simply inflammortory rhetoric.
The real question is the level of participation. During Bill Clinton's administration he shot missilles into a terrorist camp for the Cole and Embassy Bombings. If Al Gore were president he probably would have sent troops into Afganistan but not Iraq. He probably would have simply gone after the taliban and then pulled out rather than trying to install a pro-west government.
Democrats are not un-patriotic, simply they disagree with the current administrations "nation building" agenda. they also disagree with the cost of American sacrifice to install the pro-west government, IE lives, money and assets.
You can be democratic or republican, disaprove of the costs needed to establish pro-western government or not like the policy of being the world police and still be patriotic. I believe in protecting our country but not policing the world.

Border strengthening, work from home if you will. We cannot stop the determined will of terroristic people, the best we can do is protect our homeland. This new policy of a passport requirement to enter through Mexico or Canada should help. Bush's proposal for a fence is a little naive--700 miles of fence for a 2000 mile border? C'mon. We need something a little broader than that. Perhaps instead of pouring billions into the infrastructure of a country 5000 miles away, we could enlist the aid of the Mexican and Canadian Government--perhaps a small stipend for them to aid in controlling traffic across the border--we are so concerned with what they are doing over there, rather than with what they COULD be doing right here. If we are working on stopping terrorism here--then why aren't we trying to fix it here?
P.S. Didn't the REPUBLICAN Reagan administration aid and abet the rise of Osama Bin Laden?

I am a liberal (and proud of it). My solution is to give the military enough money and resources to win the war rather than putting an idiot like Rumsfield in charge, and watching him waste experienced people like Colin Powell.
