Popularity is a very confusing thing. To some people it can mean "cool and good-looking and rich" but to others its just the fact that everyone likes you. The real meaning of popularity is the latter. If you have a lot of friends who love you, you don't cause a lot of drama, you aren't a *****, you don't hook up with other girl's boyfriends, and are just plain nice to everyone, you have a pretty good chance of being popular. I think its better to be that kind of popular than the kind where you are labeled "popular" but everyone who's not "popular" hates you.
But really, when it comes down to it, popularity just doesn't matter, as long as you have your own friends. How popular you were in middle school or high school isn't going to matter when you go to college or out in the real world. Just remember that!

There's many different types of popularity. There's good and there's bad. The bad is when many people know something bad about you. The good is when they know something good about you. So try to do the right thing by taking your studies seriously and choose your friends CAREFULLY. Seperate the decent ones from the ones who can stab you in your back. Just know that it's not important to be popular to make the RIGHT type of friends. You want to make friends who you know can be caring. You have to be you and that's what matters. Don't be somebody you're not. People can tell when you're trying to act like someone else. School is not easy because of your peers. But if being popular is what you want, just think of the good popular kids, those who you think are very friendly. Learn from the positive thinkers not the negative thinkers.

If you think most people like you in school. But that's not necessarily a good thing. Most teenagers at this age are a bunch of boneheads. Lol I a teenager too, so I'm allowed to say this.

Being popular in school at your age is different than being popular when you are an adult.
Being popular as an adult involves your ability to focus your attention on others, rather than your own social anxiety (we all have it to some degree). It involves your ability to life people up, to admire and respect them, and to inspire them to feel good about themselves around you.
In school, at your age, popularity is the superficial social status based on social dominance and fear of not being accepted.
Some kids project their insecurities on others by being cruel to them and excluding them from acceptance into a social circle (clique). Other kids internalize it and hide behind their anxiety, they figure they will never be accepted so they don't even try to mingle.
The "projector-type" attempts to influence others to be just like them, believe their view, dress their way, etc. This is an attempt at justifying their own views to try to feel more powerful. They ostracize and belittle others that are not easily influenced.
Find things that make you happy (activities, sports, art, writing, ect) and stick with them. Lift other up. Focus your energy on noticing the good things about others rather than worrying about their opinion of you.
Smile at everyone and compliment people every day. Give people a reason to think good things about you, and feel good about themselves around you.
Don't cave into pressure out of fear of rejection. Sometimes people want to make everyone just like themselves so they don't feel so lonely and insecure.
You'll be truly popular when you feel comfortable with yourself, and have friends from each "clique," but belong to none in specific, and other people feel good around you.

Taking a completely wild guess it might be because you have a lot of friends and a lot of people like you - aren't you a bit concerned that you couldn't come up with this answer by yourself?

You have a lot of friends, people want to hang out with you, people invite you places. You are involved in school extracurricular activities.
