We've been a nation for how long, about 230 years right? Yet during the course of that timespan, it seems as though while in technology we excel, we mentally regress!
For example, I've always thought: If Natalie Holoway was Nadia Holloway, or would the CrackerBarrel incident have been different if it had been Carson Daly's mother.
It also seems like the same people that were hesitant to make Dr King's birthday a national holiday had no problem celebrating Columbus Day. We can totally ignore a civil and equal rights activist, but in the same breath, can celebrate a man who thought he landed in Southern Asia?!
I also wonder, why do people always talk about Al Sharpton and the like, but don't post questions regularly about people like David Duke or Trent Lott.

We have an advanced country: advanced in technology, advanced in literacy; almost everything you use has roots in America. So how can such an intelligent nation, the land of the free, be so politically illiterate.

Most of the people who will respond here are clueless to the definition of race in the first place. They will be restricted in their thinking and yet passionate in their replies.
Fact; there are but four races that make up humanity, Asian, African, Aboriginal and Caucasian. The Hispanics so many are talking about are also Caucasian, the Iraqi’s are Asian, race does not reach beyond this scope. Look at our DNA and we are all 99.99% the same, or one could say we are all cousins. These facts are indisputable, we are all related.

Your essay is poorly written. You complain about people reluctant to support a King holiday, but make no mention of the Native Americans who were here first and have no national holiday. And you dis us again by mentioning Columbus but failing to recognize that history, until recently, was taught that he 'discovered' America with no mention of the Native Americans, 5 million of us, already being here. And don't even start talking about how black people were treated, as we Native Americans suffered all that stuff first, with 4 presidents signing off on commiting genocide against the nations already here.
