I am looking to move there and was wondering if any resident or someone who has traveled there/knows someone can tell me about it. I heard its got a huge homosexual population and was wondering if this was true? If it is could you tell me another place in this area that i could raise my kids in?

I used to live in Asheville. Me and my 5 year old son loved it. There is so much to do, it's beautiful and cultural. They have the core system for schools so there are all kinds of different types of schools. My son attended a Math and Science one.

At the time we lived there they had one of the top 5 populations for homo/bisexual people but these are also the same people who took the city from a slum and helped remake it and reduce all the crime and problems they were having in the 80's.

Indeed it is a town were it is not that unusual to walk into a bank and the teller has purple hair and her nose pierced, but this is the same city that the churches almost succeed every year to cancel the "devil's holiday" Halloween.

But you can't beat the hospitality. Everyone made me feel welcomed. You could walk into a gas station and ask for directions and everyone would offer to have you follow them in your car even if it wasn't the direction they were going.

I hope to move back there some day. They have a really great website you can visit. Please don't let the alt folk scare you they are quite peaceful and respectful of their choices in life and yours.

Asheville is a great town i ran into a girl on Yahoo chat and we agreed to meet there don't know which was more beautiful her or the town.

It's a historic town with nice places to visit especially the Biltmore Estate (very nice). If you're looking for a smaller town environment there are towns spread about the area but it is in the mountains.

Don't know why you'd be worried about raising kids in a city with a large homosexual population it's the pedophiles you don't want around your kids but if you want your kids to not notice homosexuality in todays world keep them in the house and bar all outside communication.

I drove through that area a few years ago and it was some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen. I am a parent and I would be more concerned about the safety of my children (crime), making sure they have access to great schools, health care and opportunity. The last thing I would worry about is whether there is a strong homosexual problem. It is 2007 and why would you want to hide reality from your children? That isn't healthy. Hanging around a gay person is not going to turn your children into one. That said, I would move there in a minute myself that is how nice I thought it looked to be.
