the traectory of the moon around earth is not a circle, it is an ellipse with a small axis and a big axis. When the moon is the nearest from earth, it is in "perigee" and it's a distance from the earth of aproximately 363300 km; when it is at the farest position from the earth, it is in "apogee" and at a distance of 405500 km. It's average distance from earth is 384467 km.
