To answer question #1:
Before you try to capture sylvie make sure you have a camera from the Home Electronics Superstore (or from a Yard Sale). You can use a digital camera or the point and shoot camera but not the video camera. Do not put the camera in your house - leave it in your queue.
As for actually spotting Sylvie, the only things I can tell you are these:
1. She is out for 1 hour between 7am and 12pm EST every day.
2. She's out again 5 hours after the initial appearance (between 12pm and 5pm).
3. She's also out for 1 hour every evening but that seems to be random - there doesn't seem to be a time pattern for that.
4. When she's out she's always out for an entire hour and it always starts on the 00. So she's not out from 8:11 EST to 9:11 EST, it's always 8:00 EST to 9:00 EST (for example)

To answer question #2
The Kimonos are one of the prizes that can be found in the colehurst tunnels. They are a 4th level prize item meaning that they are found on the 4th dig in a hole. You can dig 4 times in any given hole and the 4th level is the 4th dig.
Just a few digging reminders:
1. It takes health to dig in the tunnels.
2. It takes less health to dig with the heavy duty shovel than to dig with the regular shovel. And it takes the least health to dig with the Colehurst shovel (which is also a 4th level prize)
3. If you are digging in the tunnels you only want to dig in locations where it tells you "Hint, this is a good location to dig". If you don't see that don't dig in that location. If you dig in a hint location and you don't get a prize on the first level continue to dig. If you get a prize refresh the screen a few times (hitting F5) and if you don't see another hint message move on to another location.
4. There are several 4th level prizes. The Kimono is one among the many that you may find if you find a 4th level prize.
One other tip - make sure your intelligence level is at 100% before you go digging.
