You are asking a question about the Presidential line of succession. Assuming the President and Vice-President died at the same time, the next in line would be Speaker of the House (of Representatives). After that would be the President pro tempore of the Senate. This and the rest of them are laid out in the Presidential Succession Act.

Note that in a real-life situation, for example where the President died and then the Vice President assumed office, that new President would normally name a Vice -President, so it would require both to die around the same time to get down to the Speaker.

The Speaker of the House.

The Presidential Succession Act of 1947, signed by President Harry Truman, changed the order again to what it is today. The cabinet members are ordered in the line of succession according to the date their offices were established.

Prior to the ratification of the 25th Amendment in 1967, there was no provision for filling a vacancy in the vice presidency. When a president died in office, the vice president succeeded him, and the vice presidency then remained vacant. The first vice president to take office under the new procedure was Gerald Ford, who was nominated by Nixon on Oct. 12, 1973, and confirmed by Congress the following Dec. 6.

This is the order it was go if the Pres. died:

The Vice President Richard Cheney
Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert
President pro tempore of the Senate1 Ted Stevens
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne
Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns
Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez2
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao3
Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson
Secretary of Transportation Vacant
Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman
Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson
Secretary of Homeland Security4 Michael Chertoff
NOTE: An official cannot succeed to the Presidency unless that person meets the Constitutional requirements

Whoever congress chooses:
In case of the removal of the President from office, or of his death, resignation, or inability to discharge the powers and duties of the said office, the same shall devolve on the Vice President, and the Congress may by law provide for the case of removal, death, resignation or inability, both of the President and Vice President, declaring what officer shall then act as President, and such officer shall act accordingly, until the disability be removed, or a President shall be elected.

ra ra is correct, in the Constitution there is a whole line up of who would be President if a meteor hits on the night of the State of the Union address, or some other catastrophe, all the way down to the janitor who picks up the soiled cigars (sorry, wrong administration), I mean who picks up the spent shotgun casings.

To USMCsting, sorry, the President pro tempore of the Senate is actually the senior senator of the party in power.

Arnold Scharzenegger........... He's the only current actor that the Republicans have at this time. Ronald Reagan would have been a good choice for this answer....... but he's 10 toes up. Maybe the Republicans can hire Bozo the Clown to fill in for Bush and Cheney. It could very easily happen that we would need someone for that position if Bush decides to go hunting with Cheney.......
