Yes, you can. Think Wal-Mart. How did they started?? It was started from one convenient store, see how many Wal-Mart stores are there in the world. There are so many success stories and yours could be one of them. Think differently, sale differently.Try out small marketing strategies and see if they work.
Do things which other convenient stores wouldn't dare to do.You have to be different to be successful, otherwise you own just another convenient store. And remember, always branch out.Set a target to open another convenient store within a certain time and try to achieve it. Continue this process, and when you get rich, give me a call.

You can make some nice money owning a convenience store - depending on how hard you want to work. You can expect to work (at the store) no less that 12 hours a day. Then, you can do all your accounting, ordering, and planning once you get home. You'd work more than you ever thought possible...but, if you don't mind putting in the time and effort you can make a good living. Just make sure you hire people you trust. Employee theft in convenience stores is responsible for 80-90% of their losse.

Buying a single store can be profitable but you are buying a job with it. If you don't know what you are doing, you will waist time and stress trying to manage your store just to make an income comparable to a decent job. Even if you find a manger to run the store, if you don't know what you are doing or they are not trustworthy, you are setting yourself up to get burned. That is the downside.
The upside? If you do know what you are doing, and can identify how to run your store efficiently, you can make some money and be your own boss. You likely will not make immense amounts of money just owning a single store, but if you are really active, you can get it running well and put people in place to run it for you while reaping the benefits of some good profits. You won't get rich off of one store, but if you get to the point where you have one running on autopilot, you can then look to expand your empire buying more stores. That is where the big money is to be found.

There are a lot of factors that figure into that. My father owns a small chain of grocery stores that have been around since the late 1800's and yes...you can make a lot of $$. On the other hand, owning a small business IS A LOT OF WORK!!!!!!!! My dad works @ 80 hrs. a week, takes few vacations, and if you are not careful you can get screwed if you trust the wrong people. So PLEASE don't let the temptation of $$ be your only deciding factor. You may not have the time to enjoy it!

Depends on your definition of a lot of money....
However, if you are set on owning a convenience store, I suggest you look into a 99 cent type of operation. Research has shown that these stores are by far the most profitable.

I know a nice ma/pa combo in UK that worked well. They made decent living and now, they own 4 stores. Yes, it is rough in the beginning but it will work out later.
I do not know about USA. I heard it is dangerous for starters.
Second, you work 7 days, at least 16 hours a day... no family life, no leisure, leading to bad health........ no....I would not do it. Make money at the cost of my health?
My little kids would grow up without my playing with them in their beautiful early years. I can never set the clock back.
Convenient store? I vote NO.

I found an opportunity where I can work from home, at my leisure without all the hassles of long hours behind a counter, the stress, being robbed, not making much of a profit and all the headaches that goes with it if you owned a store. Mine is easy, fun to do and with a team that is helpful and supportive and we all help each other and others to make a stream of money so you can email me if you are interested and we can help you make money. rpelley5@yahoo.com.
