Anyone else concerned about how many people don't know about their sexual anatomy or how babies are conceived?

For example whenever I see people asking when you can get pregnant or cannot get pregnant I see a lot of answers saying you can get pregnant any time [if not within fertile period it is biologically impossible to get pregnant].

It's not just this either, it is scary how little sexually active people actually know about sex – is this purely down to poor sex education, or are people simply wilfully ignorant?

Proof here in my answer – no, it is not possible to get pregnant if she is not fertile – think about that logically for a moment. I'm not only an ex-FAM user but trained local OBGYNs at the local family planning clinic on how to use FAM as well as study gynaecology myself, FAM being a highly reliable scientifically based form of birth control.

LMAO as said, I trained OBGYNs on how to use FAM – FAM is 91%-99% reliable.
Normally only one egg is released per cycle, that egg lives for up to 48 hours, sperm live up to 5 days in fertile quality cervical mucus – think about it.
Over 40 years and you don't know how conception occurs - my question answered wilful ignorance then.

It gets me when people ask questions like 'Could I be pregnant, my period is 5 weeks late, I feel sick..etc..'
A normal person if they thought that they were pregnant would go and buy a pregnancy test. It's the quickest way of finding out. By the time they have written the question they could have weed on the stick and know if they were by the time the first answerer had told them to go and buy one!!
All of the information regarding sex education is freely available - Books, the net etc if people have not been fortunate enough to get this info from parents or school sex ed. People should not get into sexual relationships if they don't know anything about the consequences of it e.g. babies, STDs

No, what bothers me is someone like you who's wrong but convinced otherwise. You can get pregnant even while on your period, sugar, because occasionally a woman will ovulate at that very time. Fertilization can occur during that time, and the delay between that event and the uterus being ready for implantation can in fact allow for implantation. What, you thought that women are clockwork regular and only ovulate once every 28 days, and never release several eggs within hours or days of each other? Hon. I've delivered dozens of girls who got pregnant when they thought they were "safe". I've been at it for over forty years - so I think perhaps I know a bit about the process...

I'd say it is a mixture of both. It is easy enough to find out the information, but people need to have a desire to learn. Parenting seems to have changed of late, there seems to be little effort put in to teaching children and teenagers about safe sex and anatomy.
I was deeply saddened when I read an answer recently where a young man thought that women urinate through their vagina.
I dislike the government interfering with matters such as this, but I'm beginning to thing that compulsory sexual education at a younger age might be necessary.

This is what happens when kids become sexually active WAY too young. And I firmly believe that is something that the parents should be teaching and preventing. I have seen some people on here who say they are in their early 20s and know nothing about sex of the human anatomy....OR how you get STDs or HIV. But I think they are mostly kids. 12, 13, 14, 15...etc.

Every ones fertility cycle is different and sperm stay alive in the body for 3-5 days. I know a "period" baby so yes women can get pregnant anytime...not only in what the doctors have considered the normal fertile period.

Sex education is not taught very well in schools these days and even when it is kids tend to either not pay attention or be too embarrassed to ask questions.

Parents tend to be embarrassed about teaching sex ed and most kids aren't going to ask someone directly. If we were a little more open in our society about our bodies...I'm not talking about he little girls who let it all hang out and the boys that are big hormones waiting to explode...I mean really open about discussing sex and our sexual identities then maybe we would have a lower rate of teen pregnancy.

I thought you might jfind the interesting...this is from the American Pregnancy Association

Don’t women ovulate on the 14th day after their period starts?
Unfortunately this is a myth that many still hold on to, including healthcare professionals. The day of ovulation differs from woman to woman and can even be different from month to month. The “14th day” thinking appears to come from either taking the average of when all women ovulate or from someone just dividing the 28 day cycle in half. However this myth got started, it is not an accurate way to calculate ovulation, because many women do NOT ovulate on the 14th day of their cycle.

Can I ovulate during my period?
For women who have regular cycles, ovulating during your period is highly unlikely. Some women have very irregular cycles, maybe coming once every 3 months or 2-3 times in one month, and these women can have the odd occurrence of ovulating during a period or what is believed to be a period. Still, the chance of ovulating during a period is unlikely. But because sperm can live in the body for 3-5 days, pregnancy could occur from intercourse that takes place during a period.

Can I ovulate right after my period?
The answer to this is determined by how many days are in your cycle. For example, if you have a 21 day cycle ( from the beginning of one period to the beginning of another) and you bleed for 7 days, then yes, you could ovulate right after your period. This is because we know ovulation can occur 12-16 days before your next period begins, and this would put you ovulating at days 6-10 of your cycle.

Like I said every woman is different...and maybe you are a little confused.

It is suprising the number of parents that will not / cannot talk to their kids about sex. They expect the schools to do it. The schools are hampered in their ability to do so due to conservative restraints [usually by those that WON'T tell their kids anything responsible about sexual education....sigh]. Most kids learn from other kids - IF they get the chance. Also - nowadays, the internet is the filler of voids - so that is why you see so many here asking. I would call it poor sex education, and wanting to truly know [other than the idiots who post BS].

this is information is technically incorrect. It can happen at any time during you menstrual cycle. Yes, you are more likely and more fertile during the fertile period, but you can still get pregnant at any time

They are probably just tying to get a vicarious thrill out of the rude answers. The trouble is they are probably too thick too understand them if they contain words of over one syllable.

Are they liberals? Liberals are some of the most ignorant people in society. Here's something typical -- they think gun control will stop crime. So we have a society where only cops, the military and criminals have guns......criminals have guns because by nature they don't obey gun laws or any laws. Nice society where only the law abiding citizen is not able to defend him or his family....huh?
