Good luck.

You have a few options. Medicine-wise, it's pretty much only Tums. Other than that, you can try to eat a steady slow amount of starchy foods to absorb the stomach acid and keep it in the stomach. Avoid anything that seems to exacerbate your heart burn, like very sour, greasy, or spicy foods, and try to not eat for a few hours before you go to bed. If you can keep yourself upright for a few hours, sitting or standing, before you go to bed, this can keep the acid in your stomach while you are digesting. When you are lying down, it can help to keep your head and shoulders elevated with a pillow. Unfortunately, pregnancy heart burn is very common, but luckily, it seems to go away almost immediately with delivery.

Feel better soon!

I started getting awful heartburn when I was 4 months pregnant. It got to the point where I wasn't sleeping because if I laid down my heartburn intensified so bad I would throw up. Finally, my boyfriend went and got me some pickles and begged me to eat one. He said there was something in the vinegar that they pickle cucumbers in that counteracts the stomach acid. By that point I was willing to try anything. Sure enough it worked. I'd have to get up and eat another every couple hours, but it made the heartburn manageable until I was about seven months pregnant, then my doctor put me on ranitidine (similar to zantac) and that's what got me through the rest of my pregnancy. Good luck! (Seriously, try the pickle thing, crispy dill pickles work the best!)

As long as it's not too severe, Tums are the greatest things in the world! Especially the Extra Strength spearment ones. If you're getting more than 4-5 heartburn "attacks" per day or Tums just isn't doing enough for you than ask your doctor when he/she recommends. Mine recommended taking Zantac but luckily my heartburn hasn't been too severe and Tums takes care of it every time.

TUMS! lol. they're very safe, as long you dont take more than the normal dosage. i'm almost 30 weeks, and i have been practically eating tums like candy since the third month. they're safe, and you can them with calcium too, which is just an added bonus.

This is going to sound really odd, but I was told by an old woman that mustard did the trick. I hate mustard but I ate it when I had heartburn it was gone immediately! If that doesn't work use Tums extra strength.

Tums! (calcium is a plus) Try limiting acidic foods and high sugar content foods. Coffee (even decaff) and anything with caffiene is a no-no as well. Ask your doc for a Rx if that does not work.

Ask your doc about Gaviscon....its way better than tums or rolaids! It saved me from horrible heart burn during pregnancy! Hope that helps!
