I had my check up and when I went for my bloodwork the nurse said that the dr. wanted me back in 3 weeks for another pap. Any ideas? I realize this is just speculation but it is stressing me out and the clinic refuses to speak to me about it until I see the dr. at that time. So understandably I am anxious about this. Anyone else had this happen?

there were probably abnormal cells that showed up the first time. sometimes these can mean nothing, and sometimes they can be dangerous. they want to do a 2nd one to be certain. I have had it happen a few times. I had to get a pap every 3 months to make sure the abnormal cells didn't turn into anything bad...that went on for a while and then I had to go every 6 mos, I am back to once a year now. Just a preventative measure against cervical cancer! Thats the whole reason you get paps in the first place! Good luck with this!!

that sounds unusual to ask for a 3 week repeat. perhaps they did not get adequate cells on the smear to give a reading. if there is a problem and they want a repeat, it will generally be no less than 3 months. it is probably just an unsat pap (not enough cells) but your nurse should be able to give you the pap reading over the phone if you ask. if they refuse, ask to leave a msg on your doctors voice mail. the least they could do is explain it to you

Yes, this happened twice to me. Just means you probably have abnormal cells. It could also be that you got a pap SMEAR not a pap TEST. THe difference, the pap test is liquid based cytology, where as a smear, well is the convential way. I would ask your doctor to please use Thinprep, it is the best product out there that detects PRE cancer cells before they are full blown and they are the only one's who have FDA approval for testing for HPV (sexually transmitting disease). HIGHLY recommend this product. I won't go to a Dr. who doesnt use it. I haven't had abnomal cells since this test has been used!
