Hi Ted. You are talking about "rills". Yes these are massive and much bigger than the Grand Canyon. What's more we do not really know what caused them. The theory is that they are areas where the crust has collapsed.
One of the Apollos visited one, but the astronauts could not go down into it because the sides were too steep and they were concerned they wouldn't get out again.

There is an area known as Rupes Recta - the 'straight wall' - which I suppose is a big long indentation. It is a fault about 110km long and around 300m high.
It actually looks a lot steeper than it is, because we are seeing it from so far away.

Unless you are talking about some of the more massive craters on the surface of the moon... no it is not "truue"...
