My sister go her Bachelors at Southwestern in Georgetown, TX and her PhD at Berkeley, so i'd say either are pretty dang awesome. She now teaches at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, so their porgram has just been bumped up a few notches.

It depends on what you want to study as an anthropologist, and it depends on what you want to do with your degree once you have it. If you want to pursue a graduate education, it helps to go to a college with a lot of prestige - for anthropology in the US, the most prestigious ones (debatably) are University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Harvard, University of California Berkeley, and University of Chicago. But, prestige isn't everything, of course. Each university's anthropology department will have its own focus and its own strengths. For instance, don't go to Harvard if you're seriously thinking of getting on the edge of theory-making. You should decide what part of the world or what cultures you are most interested in, and then do a little bit of Internet research to figure out which universities' anthropology departments specialize in those areas or people. Also think about what kind of person you are and about the kind of setting you'd enjoy to go to school in.

But I would deeply recommend UC Riverside. That is where I'm going and I am an anthropology major. It has one of the best anthro labs in the country.

most middle to large schools have good programs. I'm an anthro major at a state school in New England and am very happy with the program. Boston has some great schools. I know BC and Brandeis have good programs, and the Boston schools have a program where the anthro departments in each school interact with eachother, although that may just be for Grad school. Stonybrook in NY also has a good program.
Good luck!

Harvard has Dr. Fash, so if you are interested in MesoAmerican Anthropology, I would recommend Harvard.
