I have personally done 2 cars that were vandalized with sugar. One was done with granulated, the other with pancake syrup.
Although the sugar doesn't dissolve that well in gas, the pancake syrup goes to the lowest point of the tank where the fuel pump is.
It is heavier tha gasoline, and already a liquid. When it got to the engine it froze all the valves open.
Mythbusters, if indeed they came to that conclusion, are TOTALLY WRONG!!!
In both cases the valves froze up in the heads and the engines had no compression.
Over half of the fuel injectors were also gummed up to the point that they wouldn't work anymore.
One car had probably a quart of pancake syrup poured in. The other had maybe a half pound of sugar. They may have dissolved the sugar in something prior to adding it, I don't know.
I just know if the sugar gets to the motor and burns it will BADLY screw things up!!
The mythbuster car, if it didn't screw up immediately, I guarantee screwed up later! It is possible that they used granulated sugar and it didn't have time to dissolve in the gas enough to trash the motor.
The old mechanics say that sometimes it can gum up the piston rings so bad that you have to chisel the pistons out of the motor!!

You probably can't destroy an engine with sugar. You can, however, do a pretty thorough job on the fuel system, including the pump, lines, filter and maybe even the injectors or carburetor. However, you shouldn't have to worry about internal engine damage as the car will stall long before any serious damage has been done. The fuel system can be replaced, relatively inexpensively. Best thing to do? Go get a locking gas cap or buy a vehicle with a cable-release gas door. Problem solved!!

I have repaired several vehicles that have been sweetened. Fortunately the only thing that was messed up was thy fuel system. On carb cars it sets up in the bottom of the crab like rock candy if it gets through the pump and filter. On injected cars the fuel pump usually plugs and than wont run, A pricey fix. Or just drain the oil,put the drain plug back in,start the engine and put a brick on gas pedal, leave and come back in about 45 min. later and the damage will be great! Or stand back and take bets on how long it will run.

Putting sugar in the tank of your engine will cause carbon build up in the cylinders and everything will lock up. It does not take 4 pounds either.

It takes only four five ounces of sugar to kill all the fuel injectors and fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. Don't do it ! Damage amount could be a felony mischief charge.

Sugar will cause the filter to plug, that's about all. Bleach on the other hand will destroy it but can be traced by a good mechanic.

You probably don't even need all 4 pounds. You could even try sand, salt, diesel, mud, canola oil....

You can do that or use moth balls, they dissolve a lot faster. Less messy too.
