ok, i know i might be reading too much into this (it is just a cartoon)but there has always been one thing i wanted to know about this show:
Why do the writers always make the family pick on Meg so much, i mean, yes she is a bit boring and homely looking but isn't Chris just as bad and even worse?

look guys, i don't get me wrong, i always find it hilarious when the characters do this i am just asking this out of pure curiosity and was hoping to get a good answer like maybe something that Seth MacFarlane said about it.

I sure i heard on one of the commontaries from the show is the reason they pick on meg is that most of the writers are male and are unsure of how to intact meg, because she is a teenage girl. I think the family do not like her because she is a disappointment to both Peter and Lois. Peter wanted her to be a boy, as we say on one of the early eps of the show and lois was supposed to compete in the olympics, but fell pregnant with her and couldn't go. She nows says that she is pro-choice. That is from the movie. Chris plays along because he knows no different, but doesn't hate her and stewie just hates her, as well as hating everone (apart from Brian). Brian ignores her most of the time, but when he is drunk, he has hit on her a few times. I think the reason that they do hate her is that the writers don't know what is like to be a teenage girl, and it is easier to make fun of her then include her a part of the family. I think it is funny when they do tease her, but i do feel slightly sorry for her.

The writers "make" the family pick on Meg because that is her "thing" in the show. Just like Stewie wants to kill Lois and rule the world and Chris is terrorized by the monkey that lives in his closet.
It is is just the way the cartoon is written....FOR LAUGHS.

If they had picked on Chris instead of Meg you may well have been asking why the pick on Chris.
I think it just had to be Meg

If they picked on Chris he would cry and that's not fun. Meg actually reacts so that's what makes it funny.

lol cause the parents love stewie and chris themost.. i mean, they said that if they had to pick between the three of them, they'll pick the two boys, haha that's just the way it is..they are emphazising on how families used to preffer the male sibblings than female..at least that's what i think

It's just to make the show interesting, you feel you know the characters better when you know how they are going to be portrayed.
