let me just start by saying, not many of you people know what you are talking about!!!! Reason, Fruityloops, Cubase, protools, abelton, acid. they are all production softwares, the question is what do professionals use..

The answer is simple, ALL of the above! all these softwares have there own unique features, Fruityloops is one of the most easiest to use and fastest way to lay a beat and instruments down on due to its extremely fast user interface. reason is in my opinion fairly limited, and for that reason I left reason at version 3 and never went back. Cubase is a GOD in music production, it can use vsti's vst's and samples, it can be used to master, and its big sister Nuendo can edit music and movies and master in full surround sound. fruityloops mastering facilities are limited and can be quite tedious getting a well balanced track, so producers use "bouncing" to take all the channels and export them individualy for mastering, pro tools by far in my opinion has the edge on mastering, being designed from the start for that very purpose and for recording, however, it isn't limited to only recording and mastering vst's can be utalised but its a slow process, which is why professionals use multiple softwares and stations because its more financialy viable as its faster... Timberland loves fruityloops so does Eminem I think alchemist uses fruityloops aswell. I think candy shop by fifty cent was made on a plane on fruityloops on a laptop.

SoundForge is a popular program.

However, remember that we're talking about multi-million dollar recording studios with computer recording equipment that makes our home computers look like Commodore 64s by comparison. Most high quality recording programs will cost you big bucks, but you may not need that kind of functionality.

Go to Fry's and look under recording programs - there are a few between $80 and $100.

the use machines. to sequence a lot of it the use pro tools, sonar, some use acid (why i don't know)

for mac based users it all logic.

cubase is in the top 3 as well.

to many to name. but the majority of their sounds come from certain snyths they use or sound generators

the last POSTER MAKES ME LAUGH IT IS OBVIOUSLY A BEGINGER. lol..a bed room producer for sure.

good point, its the software, not the talent, or the fact it runs in a multi thousand pound recording studio.....your bound to get a free download, or 20 quid package, not just to record pro quality, but also make you musically tallented, and get you in the charts....it really is that easy....we only dont do it, cause of a software problem....
When you are a talented musician, in the charts, and in the studio...you ask the techie guy at the desk.....

Most professional studios use Protools. There are, however, hundreds of "plug-ins" for effects and such that vary widely in use.

You can buy it in stores.
