Buying used DVD's from a pawn shop is very risky. I only buy my used DVD's from a video store that offers a lifetime guarantee. I only use an anti-static cloth and wipe from the center out.

Here is some information I found on a site

Keeping DVDs and CDs free of dust and scratches is important for several reasons:
A damaged disc may not play as expected
Inserting a disc with foreign substances on it could damage the player
Replacing a disc due to self-inflicted damage is a waste of money because it essentially doubles the price paid per disc

what you can do is take soft damp cloth and wipe it . Or take some dish soap and (very little) rub it on the disk all the way around. Then rinse it completely. Then dry with a lint free cloth. You may have to do a couple times depending on how bad the scratches are.

The cleaner you buy is nothing more than isopropyl alcohol. Just remember after you've sprayed or splashed it on, to wipe from the center out, not in a circular motion. If it's still messed up, they have stuff to buy to fill in the scratches or whatever...

Well this may sound a little crazy but I have tried it and it works. Take the DVD and put toothpaste(not the gel kind)all over the DVD, let it dry completely, take tissue and wipe the toothpaste off. This should fix it. My little sister taught me this trick. She saw it on channel 2..lol.

Try rubbing alcohol, and windex, but make sure they are completely dry before trying to play them.

if it is scratched, go to Target or something and get some cleaner for it. that should work. if it doesn't just use a smooth cloth. that should do it.

windex first. If this does not work, try peanut butter. (no joke)
Put it on and wipe off.
