There are always mitigating circumstances that can be brought up before a Judge. Really, should a male murderer with those same issues you have outlined there get an automatic get out of jail free card? I dont know what prisons are like in the UK but here the male prisons are victorian and the female prisons are very comfortable and up to date so there is already an imbalance built in to the system. EDIT don't be difficult Eleanore, the point remains. We could easly come up with many arguments that would support the idea of no male prisoners bar the dangerous too.

Just short of total capacity, they are using portacabins in some cases (and they give theprisoners the key in case there's a fire!) and old navy ships in others, these were meant to be just temporary solutions and now judges are being pressured into giving shorter sentences or community service!

i dont know but it is a fact that there are more foreign people than English people in the English prisons
