My old, basic CD player is worn out. I use it as part of a hi-fi system that also includes an amplifier/tuner and a minidisc player.
I can buy a DVD player for much less than the cost of a CD player. I realise that I would not be able to programme it to play CD tracks in a different order to what is on the CD, but I don't ever do that in any case.
All I do is put a CD in the player and listen to it from beginning to end.
A new DVD player would also play MP3 CDs, which would be useful. I can buy a DVD player at a lower cost than a CD player; the DVD player has sockets for the leads I would use to hook it up to my amplifier.
Using a DVD player as a standalone CD player seems such a good idea, but I wonder if any technically minded Yahoo Answers enthusiasts can think of any reasons I should not buy a DVD to use in this way.
THANKS in advance to anyone who can answer this question.

Hello:
You can buy a DVD player and play CD's-DVD's on it. Make sure you buy a good make like SONY or Philips and that has the Red and White audio out plugs
It can also play Mp3 so why depend on a television
Make sure it is a good quality dvd player, because it could ruin your disks.
Enjoy
Hope that proved useful

yup!! most dvd players will play cd's you just use it as if you were going to put in a dvd. it won't mess up your dvd player so don't worry about that, if it can't read the disk it'll let you know. but you do have to keep your tv on.

another alternative is to use your computer to play the cd, or just get a new cd player x)

either way i hope this helps!! good luck!!

Depends what you want. Specialist CD/MP3 players can have better sound and extras but a DVD player means that you don't just need to use Cd's. Tough one.

You could...I actually suggest doing that because it serves more than one purpose. You can't play DVD's in a CD player so yeah, I think you should go for it!

Sounds good to me. Although I don't have a DVD player...now, don't stop reading yet, I'm not banana's lol. I have a PS2 slim version, so it plays PS1-PS2 games, of corse...duhh..and DVDs/Cd's.
So I couldn't really answer your Question, but it sounds good to me :)
