I wouldn't say it's the most overrated, but one film I didn't think was as good as the hype was Sunset Boulevard.

I really don't think that "Citizen Kane", which is routinely listed as one of the top, if not the top movie of all time, is all that great.

As much as I like Citizen Kane, it is extremely overrated. Others include Casablanca, Gone With The Wind, North By Northwest, and Breakfast at Tiffanys. Then again, I'm not a fan of old movies, so honestly, in my opinion, most old movies are overrated.

I have two movies that I think are overrated:

Citizen Kane is the first. Yes, it was a good movie but not a great movie, in my opinion.

The other movie that I think is REALLY overrated is Casablanca. I have seen African Queen several times and really like that so checked out Casablanca. I have tried on several occasions to watch that movie all the way through and just can't do it.

I also think Seinfeld is overrated...sure it is funny but not one of the all time great tv comedies.

To me, a classic can be watched and enjoyed many times, like "To Kill a Mockingbird", but although the first time was enjoyable for "Gone With the Wind", I wouldn't watch it over and over. So, that's my choice for most overrated.

Citizen Kane, Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz

One modern classic would have to be Silence of the Lambs.

Citizen Kane - it, along with it's creator, Orson Welles, is way overrated....a classic, by my definition, shouldn't include a story line about someone lusting ( for lack of a better term) about a snow sled.

At least Casablanca and Gone with the Wind had engaging subplots and a real, epic feel to them.

Overrated or not is often a matter of personal choice but according to me "Casablanca" is the most overrated film of all time. I hate it. Aslo "North by Northwest"..i hate Cary Grant.

As ludicrous as it sounds, I give the award to "It's a Wonderful Life" as being the most over-rated classic film of all time. It's not enough that every Christmas, this movie is laid out to the national viewing audience to teach us that no one is alone who has friends, but when they expand it to four hours long, talk about behind the scenes info (i.e. the snow in the film was painted corn flakes), enough already!

Yes, it's a good movie the first time around, but it can really, really depress you if you're someone who detests the situation you're in, and you dream about getting away from the life you have. This movie teaches acceptance of the life you've been given, and frankly, that is a rather bull**** way to live in my book. :-)
