I ran into that myself. I opened my own business. I'd bet you know enough about your line of work by now to do the same.

I am a 60 year old male. During the last 5 years, I have been made redundant once, laid off twice. Each time i have settled down on the internet and looked for a job. Although i am a skilled engineer, i am prepared to sweep streets if that is all i can get in order to generate enough money to pay our way. I have , through diligence and research manged to keep finding jobs, so i suggest that you keep a positive outlook and try for every job that you can find, even if you think that you are over or under qualified. I live my life thinking....I I dont ask, then the answer is NO!. Good luck and dont give up looking. I didnt and have only had a couple of weeks unemployed in the last 5 years.

There should not be any age barrier with employment. Age do count on certain aspect, e.g. Physical ability, but at times employment may also required people with vast experience and knowledge to do certain jobs. contact is also another factor why employer still employed people over 50 years old. As such, U need to convince the employer that U are much better off than the 50 years old staff in term of a better qualification, better knowledge, better skills, better contacts and loyal. Then only U can safely say that employer should not employ people above 50 years old.

You just have to look for a company that likes older workers, no problem with maternity leave and sick children and older people are most of the time more responsible than the younger ones. Our company has 11 workers and 9 of those are over 50.
Good luck!

Brush up your computer skills and your resume and get out there. Practice interviewing with someone. Knowledge and experience can't be taught. Being older can be a plus. The only limit you have is yourself.

I hope you vote. It is the only way to change things. And get your friends into friendly forums for discussions.
We should all be valued and working is the best way to do that.
