It depends from your e-mail system. for example, if you have a Google e-mail account, you have about 2 GigaBytes for your inbox, same thing for an sbcglobal account.
What e-mail provider as you inquiring about?
But, if you have your e-mail set up to get on your computer (pop3) then it's as big as the space your hard drive has available.

Because you (and everybody else we uses your e-mail system) have their e-mail stored on a hard drive on the e-mail system's computer, there is a limited amount of space for each user. So you can only have so many e-mails in your inbox. The number of e-mails varies with each e-mail provider. Some give you a couple gig of space, others only a few mb.
Most e-mail programs (unfortunately not Yahoo) give you a way to copy the e-mail from your inbox to you own computer's hard drive. Then you can keep as much mail as your hard drive will hold. Check the Helps section of your e-mail service to see if there is a way to do that.

If you are talking about " www.inbox.com ", they are providing about 5GB of web space including online space for you photos and documents.
And if you are talking about your regular inbox, I think there is no mail service which does not show the limit of your inbox. Instead it is placed on the front so you may manage your account by deleting extra mails.
For that u may get much information from the service provider.
And about emptying or deleting mail; you know what to do!

Your inbox can hold as much as your hard drive can store, which is more emails than you could recieve in your lifetime, if you are using an email program on your computer. If you log into a site like yahoo, it tells you how much space you have left in MB.

there is 100mb and you won't have to empty it. the server will delete the oldest emails when it gets full. it will take years to get to that point. i heard that yahoo is going to extend the storage to 1gb.
if you had a gmail account you could make two clicks and completely empty your inbox
