Under current law (which I am not debating - just stating) the sharing of copyright material in digital format over a P2P network such as Limewire is illegal. It violated the copyright rights of the copyright holder. The argument is that every copy downloaded is a copy that will not be purchased. So the copyright holder loses their roylaties for that material. So they are entitled to sue or fine you to retreive those roylaties. To date, the court has upheld this arguement and have fined people for the activity.

The fine is often based on the arguement that while you were download that song with Limewire, you were also uploading it to others. (That is how all P2P programs work.) During the time of your download, you could have provided that song to several dozen more people. So you did not steal just one copy of the song, you made it available to dozens of other people illegally. So average fines have started at $1000 a song and gone up from there.

I think they let you buy the pro one... which isn't that much. I don't think once you are paying a fee that they will be making you pay a fine. I haven't heard of it in the news... but everyone uses that or any other sharing program.

Well, it IS kind of messed up getting musicians music for free. It's HOW they make thier money, and P2P programs like Limeware offer ways to just GIVE copies away.

But then again, you ARE getting what you pay for... some copies are REALLY bad, contain viruses to trash you CPU... and can give someone access to your computer as well.

And oh yeah, this is more for folks trying to Make Money off it. You've got nothing worry about unless your dowloading the music and then turning around and trying to SELL copies of 'em.

You will be incarcerated with the other one million people who are doing the same thing. They are building the jails as we speak. Lock your doors, don't answer the phone. Get a good lawyer, I did. I married him. I thnik he might be a criminal too. We see a lot of great movies and listen to a lot of good music.

If you are downloading any copyrighted music, movies, or programs without paying for them, YOU ARE STEALING. Theft is a crime, and if you are caught you will be prosecuted and fined.

I doubt it because they warn you on Limewire about the risks of downloading to bootleg. As long as you aren't doing it for that reason you are straight

if you're downloading and/or allowing others access to copyrighted material (songs, movies, etc) then you're doing something illegal...and if they track you down, they could sue you and make you pay $
