Downloading music for free is illegal so there is no 'perfect' service. However, I have used Limewire for several years and have had absolutely no problems. The only thing you need to be wary of is downloading programs and such, but for music, you should have no problems. You control the content that is downloaded to your computer. One thing I have noticed lately that really sucks is that when you click to download a song, it opens up an advertisement window. Nothing big, it's just annoying.
If you want a good alternative to Limewire (it runs off the same system), then try FrostWire. http://www.frostwire.com/

Try a torrent program like bitcomet or bitlord. The albums I download have not had any viruses in them yet. But nothing is a 100% safe.

I use Ares. After you subscribe for free to Ares you will be able to download music, films etc.. search can be effected by name of song / film, by author / actor.
I find this site very safe and have downloaded over a 100 songs so far, with no problems.

Don't do it. It is stealing and you will be caught. The music companies are starting to prosecute people for this.
Anyhow who values anything given for free!!!
